Vlaardingen was again shocked by an explosion on Friday morning, the eighth in a short time. According to the police, the explosion took place at a business premises in Wilhelminastraat. That building had also been targeted before.
Police said the explosion happened around 6 a.m. There were no injuries, but one window was broken.
After a residents’ meeting on Wednesday, Mayor Bert Wijbenga had decided to provide extra protection to neighborhoods in Vlaardingen in the evening and at night. According to the police, there were also additional checks in the city during the night from Thursday to Friday. Camera surveillance was previously installed and extra officers and enforcers were deployed.
Vlaardingen was hit by seven explosions and an attempted explosion in a short time. The explosions may be related. According to various media, a plumber is the target, but the police say nothing about this.
After the explosions, Wijbenga closed a number of buildings, including the business premises on Wilhelminastraat, which was targeted again on Friday morning.
Earlier this week, a 26-year-old suspect from Rotterdam was arrested. Despite that arrest, another explosion took place. The police cannot say whether there are other suspects in the picture.
Explosion in Brikstraat in both Rotterdam and Dordrecht
It was also restless elsewhere in the area last night. An explosion took place in the Brikstraat in the Rotterdam district of Delfshaven around 1.30 am. Someone suffered minor injuries. Around 4 a.m. there was an explosion in the Wielwijk in Dordrecht, also in the Brikstraat.
According to a police spokesperson, the investigations into both explosions are still in full swing and it remains to be determined whether the explosions are related.
No one was injured in the explosion in Dordrecht. There was damage to a home.
Earlier on Thursday evening, around 7 p.m., there was an explosion at the Spinet in the Zevenkamp district in Rotterdam and around 11 p.m. something exploded under a car at the Zeisvoorde in Spijkenisse.
