Serie A Play-offs: Roma-Juventus Clash and Milan-Inter Derby Results

Another day of play-offs in Serie A, with the Roma-Juventus clash and the Milan-Inter derby in the scudetto pool. In the maintenance group, Como emerged victorious from Sassuolo, who suffered their first defeat, while Sampdoria won their first match!

The 18th day of the championship marked the end of the first phase of the season. Serie A is now divided into two pools of five teams: a “Scudetto” pool bringing together the top five and a “Maintenance” pool which brings together the five lowest ranked teams. This second phase (8 team matches, spread over 10 days, with 4 outward and 4 return matches) – which is played from Friday March 17 to Saturday May 27 – will determine the champion of the season, the European qualifications (2) and maintenance, with a direct descent and a barrage (facing the second in Serie B). The points of the first phase are kept.

Roma had a narrow escape

After suffering a dangerous first attack, Juventus took the lead thanks to a solo prowess from Barbara Bonansea (14th), who dribbled past three Roman defenders to send her ball down the left 0-1! But the happiness will be short-lived, with the instant equalizer for Roma, with this first strike from Giacinti deflected by Camelia Ceasar, but Andressa Alves (16th) followed well and took the ball back with a tackle at the far post 1- 1! Juventus, however, continues its march forward and will be rewarded with this penalty, transformed by Arianna Caruso (25th).

In the second half, Roma came back with the ingredients and regained the lead in their home game, with this equalizer from Giacinti (60th), the only full axis, who placed a shot at the entrance to the area 2-2. Before completely reversing the match on an inspiration from Carina Wenninger, who shifts to her right for Emilie Haavi, who comes to send a good cross to the far post, cut from the head by Sophie Román Haug (86th) entered five minutes earlier 3- 2! Roma are now 11 points clear of Juventus.

In the other meeting at the top of the table, AC Milan overcame Inter and moved up to 3rd place in the standings, at the expense of Fiorentina. Les Rouges et Noires will open the scoring in the first period, with this full-axis curled corner, cut from the head by Christy Grimshaw (27th) 1-0! Inter get several chances, but lack realism, until the hour mark, with this decisive pass from Tabitha Chawinga behind her for Elisa Polli, who recovers the offering from the outside of the foot 1-1!

Inter want to reverse the situation but come up against AC Milan goalkeeper Laura Giuliani, who continues to annoy them. Well launched by Lindsey Thomas, Angelica Soffia takes her left lane and crosses behind the penalty spot for Martina Piemonte (81st), who misses her control, but still manages to arm a powerful strike, which ends just below the cross section of Piazza 2-1! We find again Lindsey Thomas at the maneuver, who passes to Piemonte, for Valery Vigilucci, who comes to place a cross shot on the ground, to ratify the victory of AC Milan 3-1!

Sassuolo suffers its first defeat

In the maintenance group, Sampdoria received Pomigliano. After suffering three defeats in a row, Sampdoria will manage to stop the bleeding this weekend, with a 4-1 victory. Two own goals from Angela Passeri (4th and 45th), and goals from Agnese Bonfantini ( 48th) and Cecilia Re (79th) in the second half. Pomigliano failed to take advantage of his equalizer by Ana Lucia Martinez (39th). Sampdoria goes back to 4th place in the maintenance group, but is still not out of the woods, still two points behind the first non-relegation player.

For his part, Como continues his good series with a prestigious victory against Sassuolo 2-1! After a quick opener by Camilla Linberg (15th) for Como, the visitors quickly equalized through Refiloe Jane (31st), but suffered their first defeat, with this penalty converted by Julia Karlenäs (83rd) at the end of the match! With four matches still to play (in both pools), Sassuolo should not suffer from this first setback, even if nothing is ever decided in advance.
