Serie A – Juventus were at their lowest

Fifteen years ago to the day, despite being the first in Serie A, Juventus was relegated to Serie B.

In 2006, Juventus are preparing to be officially crowned champions of Italy for the second time in a row. However, the Calciopoli affair comes to light. Luciano Moggi, general manager of Juventus, is accused of corruption and purchase of matches. The Old Lady club has its last two scudetti (2005 and 2006) withdrawn and is relegated to Serie B. Other Serie A clubs are sanctioned like Fiorentina, Lazio or AC Milan but none of them eventually went down to a lower division.

Coached by Didier Deschamps, Juventus has lost important players like Cannavaro, Thuram, Ibrahimovic or Vieira. However, she could count on her pillars like David Trezeguet, Alessandro Del Piero, Nedved, Gianluigi Buffon or even a certain Giorgio Chiellini to stay at the club. All these stars had received offers from different clubs but declined them to help the club go up to the level.

For the first time in their history, the Bianconeri played in Serie B. But it won’t last long as Juventus return to Serie A the following year.
