Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho will lead AS Rome footballers from the new season. He signed a contract by June 30, 2024 and will replace compatriot Paul Fonsec, who will leave it after the end of this year.
Fifty-eight-year-old Mourinh was recalled by the English club Tottenham Hotspur in April. From 2008 to 2010, he led Inter Milan in Italy, with which he also won treble for victories in Serie A, Coppa Italia and the Champions League.
“After meetings with the club management, I immediately understood their ambitions with AS Roma. These are the same goals that always motivated me. Together we want to build a winning project in the coming years. I was convinced by the passion of the fans and I can’t wait for next season. I wish Paul Fonsec the best. “ Mourinho said on the official website of “wolves”.
The Romans are currently in seventh place in the highest Italian competition and in the first match of the semifinals of the European League they lost 2: 6 at Manchester United.
“Hiring Jose is a big step in building a winning mentality in our club,” jointly stated by President Dan Friedkin and Vice President Ryan Friedkin. “When we learned that Jose was free, we immediately took the chance to address one of the best coaches of all time,” added AS general manager Tiago Pinto.
In the past, Mourinho also coached FC Porto, London Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United. He has 25 trophies in his career, and has enjoyed league titles in England, Spain, Italy and Portugal. As one of three coaches in history, he won the Champions League with two clubs (FC Porto – 2004, Inter Milan – 2010). He worked in Tottenham for seventeen months and did not win the trophy.
