Nthat year, same old Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese star left 2020 behind and wasted no time by scoring a brace in his first game of 2021.
He has now scored a goal in every calendar year since 2002, when he scored two goals for Sporting CP against Moreirense at just 17 years old.
Cristiano has now amassed a total of 758 goals in his career, split between five clubs: Sporting (five), Manchester United (118), Real Madrid (450), Juventus (83) and Portugal (102).
The 35-year-old is now looking to move ahead of Josef Bican, who is in third place on 759 goals, behind Romario (772) and Pele (767).
“Well done boys, we started 2021 in the best way,” tweeted Cristiano after he reached 18 goals in just 15 games in all competitions this season.
In fact, he is ahead of Romelu Lukaku, Ciro Immobile and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the hunt for the Serie A Golden Boot award, the Capocannoniere.
“It’s a huge pleasure for everyone to have Cristiano in the team, he works the same way now aged 35 than he did when he was young,” said Andrea Pirlo.
After missing out on the top scorer award in his first two seasons in Serie A, Cristiano is now gunning for his first Capocannoniere and, with 14 goals, he is two goals in front of Lukaku in second place.
It would be his fifth Golden Boot award after winning one in the Premier League and three in LaLiga Santander.
