Chemirmir was arrested in 2018 after a 91-year-old woman survived an attack. In questioning, the woman said that Chemirmir had forced his way into her apartment and tried to suffocate her with a pillow. He then stole jewelery and valuables from the 91-year-old, writes AP.

The discovery led the police to double-check previous suspicious deaths of elderly women, and in parallel the number of murder charges against Chemirmir rose. In all, he was charged with 22 murders, 13 in Dallas and nine in Collin County.
All of the presumed murder victims were elderly women and all had allegedly been robbed of jewelery and valuables.
Chemirmir has always denied guilt.
– My mother died of fear. It’s a certain relief to think that he didn’t have a peaceful death either, says Shannon Dion, the daughter of 92-year-old Doris Gleason, who is one of Chemirmir’s alleged victims, to AP.

The murder is being investigated
The suspected serial killer’s lawyer, Phillip Hayes, refers to the murder of his client as a terrible tragedy.
– No one deserves to be killed, anyway. Especially not when you are in a place where you have no chance to escape, he tells the news agency.
Earlier in September, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice implemented measures and lockdowns, following a large increase in contraband and murders among inmates. On September 6, the ministry stated that 16 inmates had been killed so far this year.
The murder of Chemirmir is being investigated by the ministry.
