Serial killer Billy Chemirmir found dead in Texas State Prison cell: Details and investigation

Billy Chemirmir was found dead in his cell at Texas State Prison on Tuesday (September 19). He was sentenced to life in prison in October 2022 for the murder of two women and suspected of twelve others.

Serial killer Billy Chemirmir was killed in his cell on Tuesday September 19. The man was charged in 2018 for the murder of Lu Thi Harris (81 years old) and that, in 2022, of Mary Brooks (87 years old).

Furthermore, he was suspected of having killed several other women between 2016 and 2018, including Phyllis Payne (91 years old), Phoebe Perry (94 years old), Norma French (85 years old), Doris Gleason (92 years old) and Rosemary Curtis ( 96 years old).

According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, his cellmate was identified as the attacker. However, the department did not provide further details on the circumstances of the death, only saying that the inspector general’s office was in charge of the investigation.

Billy Chemirmir was a nurse in Kenya before arriving in the United States. Although he never obtained authorization to practice his profession there, he was hired under the false identity of Benjamin Koitaba, in a structure which helped the elderly.

He then showed up at his victims’ homes as a guard, caregiver or handyman, to kill them, before stealing money and jewelry.
