– It is the ugliest case so far. We have not seen the basketball and the violence that was perpetrated earlier this summer, says Ann Kristin Grosberghaugen, head of the investigation section for sexual offenses in the Oslo police district, to Dagbladet.
As Oslo newspaper has mentioned, a man in his 20s was arrested on Friday, charged with assaulting and raping a woman near Akershus fortress the night before.
The police: – Potential serial abuser
– They came into contact with each other down by Oslo S, and walked together for a while. Suddenly, without warning, he assaulted her. It was a real basketball attack, in which she suffered a number of injuries, says Grosberghaugen.
Recognized
According to the police attorney, the rape was not consummated because the woman in the basket attack got free.
– She came into contact with two witnesses from Sporveien, who helped her contact AMK, she says.

The accused was arrested on Friday evening, after the police had examined surveillance videos.
– He has a history in the police and was recognisable, explains Grosberghaugen.
The man was released from prison less than two months ago after serving an extensive sentence for, among other things, assault rape, robbery and drug offences.
Pushed in
The rape he is convicted of occurred in May 2019. He followed a young woman home to her residence and forced his way into the front door. He then threatened the woman with a knife and carried out the assault.
The young man was remanded in custody on Sunday for four weeks with a ban on letters and visits for the entire period. He requested to be released, and has not yet allowed himself to be questioned. It is not clear how he reacts to the question of guilt.
Exposing the arrest: Checked against assault
– It was I who advised him not to make a statement, because the situation is so uncertain this early in the investigation phase. We are waiting for more clarification of the evidence, his defender Cathrine Anahi Bang tells Dagbladet.
Bang emphasizes that the client will eventually take part in questioning, but cannot say when it will become relevant.
Three accused
The assault and rape is so far the latest incident in a gradually significant series of assaults on women and cases of “sexually offensive behaviour” in central Oslo this summer:
Last Wednesday, a man in his 20s was remanded in custody for two weeks, charged with rape without intercourse after an assault in Kampen park in the east of the city, while another young man is in prison after being arrested for several cases of exposure and unwanted touching of women in early June.
All of the three accused have been produced before a police doctor and have undergone or will undergo so-called pre-trial observation, for assessment of their sanity under criminal law.

In addition to the aforementioned cases, the police are investigating an attempted rape at the Botanical Gardens in Tøyen/Grønland on Sunday 2 July. Currently, they are not linking any of the arrested men to this incident.
– We have very little to go on – there is little description of the perpetrator, and we have not found anything on video surveillance, says police attorney Grosberghaugen.
– Not a particular year
Despite the large amount of attention surrounding the many incidents, she believes that this year’s summer does not particularly stand out with particularly many assaults.
– Two years ago we had 17-18 relationships – many of them were with an unknown perpetrator, and were cases we were unable to solve. Now there are also a number of relationships, but we have also arrested three people who we have taken into custody.
Man charged with assault rape
Grosberghaugen reminds us that the abuse spans “the whole spectrum”, from exposure to rape.
– None of the cases involve consummated rapes. But it is clear that it is frightening and traumatizing to experience this – it should not happen, and we take it seriously, emphasizes the head of the investigation.
– Safe city
She has previously maintained that people traveling in Oslo can generally feel safe. It still applies.
– But this is a big city, and now we have a number of incidents. We want to inform people, and ask the public to be extra attentive.
The police prosecutor is asking people who may have information of importance to the cases to get in touch Oslo police tips page.
This also applies to people who have been exposed to something similar, she emphasizes.
