DORTMUND, Germany (AP) — Serhou Guirassy scored twice and generated a penalty as Borussia Dortmund overcame a 2-goal deficit to beat local rival Bochum 4-2 on Friday in the German league, ahead of what It will be their match against Celtic in the Champions League next week.
Dortmund was crushed 5-1 by Stuttgart last week, and the pressure on new coach Nuri Sahin seemed to be mounting when his team conceded two early goals to Bochum.
In the space of five minutes, Mateus Bero intelligently defined a wall play by entering the center, then Dani de Wit would make it 2-0 after his teammate Myron Boadu won the ball from Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. In the technical area, Sahin extended his arms in a gesture of indignation.
Dortmund worked its way into the game, first with a header from Guirassy just before half-time to cut the deficit to 2-1, then with a penalty from Emre Can to tie the game after a clumsy foul on Guirassy.
It was Dortmund’s turn to turn the game around after that, Karim Adeyemi filtered a perfect pass towards Guirassy to make it 3-2 with a shot that passed between the legs of goalkeeper Patrick Drewes. A lost ball by Drewes led to Felix Nmecha scoring Dortmund’s fourth goal.
With this result, Dortmund climbs to second position in the table prior to the weekend’s matches, behind Bayern Munich, and they have added 10 points in five games. Last season’s Champions League runners-up continue their campaign in the revamped competition at home to Scottish club Celtic on Tuesday.
Bochum is second to last in the 18-team table, with just one point under new coach Peter Zeidler.
