A good six weeks after his serious riding accident, former Spanish national goalkeeper Sergio Rico addressed the fans with emotional words. “I would like to thank every single person who showed and sent me their love during these difficult days,” said an Instagram story on Sunday evening.
Whether Rico wrote it himself remained unclear due to the severity of his injuries. The 29-year-old is still being treated at a hospital in Seville. “I continue to work on my recovery, which is getting better every day. I feel very happy, thanks again everyone and I hope we can see each other again soon.”
The keeper of the French champions Paris Saint-Germain fell badly in a riding accident in his native Andalusia on May 28 because the horse bolted. Rico was kicked in the head by the animal in the accident on the ground and was seriously injured, it was said at the time. After the traumatic brain injury, he was in the intensive care unit for a few days in a coma. (dpa/loan)
