Q: Sergio, second place is your best result since the race in Miami. What pleases you the most?
Sergio Perez: I am glad that I am returning to the previous form. I was on the podium in Hungary too, I mean when you fight outside of traffic, you get a much more complete experience that you can use in the next race. In many races, this was not possible, but now it has appeared and it helps a lot.
Question: You acted aggressively at the start. Tell us about the first lap, how you took the lead…
Sergio Perez: I understood that it was extremely important for my race to get ahead of Charles on the first lap. I got off to a good start, but so did he. It was necessary to get ahead of him in the fifth turn, which happened.
Question: Judging by the lap time, in the race you were more comfortable on the Soft tires than on the Medium?
Sergio Perez: Undoubtedly. It was not easy on the Medium tires, especially in the rain when they cooled down a bit. With Medium, we could not figure it out. Like most of the participants, we returned to Soft.
Q: Would you like to forgo your summer break to build on your success next week?
Sergio PerezA: I don’t think it will change anything. But the break will allow us to carefully analyze everything and draw conclusions, and will give us the strength to maintain this momentum until the end of a long season.
Q: When you crossed the line in the qualifying final on Friday, Christian Horner got in touch, congratulated you, and you replied: “Now you will talk to me.” What did it mean?
Sergio Perez: It’s a joke. Before qualifying, he said, “If you don’t make the top three, I won’t talk to you for the rest of the weekend.” So he talked to me for the rest of the weekend.
