Sergio Perez runs in 2021 or before Red Bull Racing, or is taking a sabbatical. The Mexican has told this in a live stream on his YouTube channel. No final decisions have been made yet.
Expectations were high. Sergio Perez announced last week that he would be giving a press conference in front of the South American press tonight (Monday, November 30) at 6:30 PM Dutch time. Many Formula 1 enthusiasts have been waiting in excitement ever since, as he might be making more known about his future in racing. However, it is not the first time that the Mexican has called journalists together to put in a good word for his sponsors, so not everyone had the same high expectations.

The word has now been resolved. Sergio Perez is hoping for a seat at Red Bull Racing next season, but otherwise the veteran driver will take a sabbatical in 2021 and look for options for 2022. “It’s Red Bull or Plan B,” he says in a live stream on his YouTube -channel. With Plan B he means a year away from the sport. Red Bull Racing has indicated last weekend in the form of Helmut Marko and Christian Horner that a decision about the seat of Alexander Albon.
Perez also says he is in talks with a number of “big teams” about the role of reserve driver in 2022. “But we have to talk about that because I don’t want to travel to all the races,” it sounds. “I cannot say for sure that I will be on the grid in 2022, but I want to take into account that I am taking a gap year. I want to give myself time to think.” Finally, he says that – if necessary – something is already underway for a return in 2022. He does not mention which team this concerns.
