Sergio Pérez disappointed with track limits and underperformance in Qatar Grand Prix

For the eighth time this season, Sergio Pérez failed to participate in Q3. In Qatar, just like earlier this year in Austria, something went wrong with the track limits. The Mexican lost his time, but thinks it is a shame that exceeding the track limits is being punished at all this weekend.

Pérez will get another chance on Saturday, on the sprint day, but knows that he will have to catch up again on Sunday. He set a time that would have been just enough for a Q3 participation, but lost that time. ‘It was a shame, those few millimeters didn’t help. We discussed this during the drivers’ meeting, that the track limits were not necessary at all on such a difficult circuit,” the Red Bull driver told Fox Sports Mexico in his own country.

Even before he lost his lap time, things were not going smoothly for Pérez, who complained about the balance. ‘I had a lot of understeer, but I also had a hard time with the rear. I have not been able to find an optimal setting,” says the 33-year-old, who suffered from understeer and oversteer.

In conversation with F1TV the Mexican shared his frustrations again. ‘It was quite difficult. We couldn’t really find the balance. We had so many problems that every corner felt different,” Pérez is disappointed. ‘The conditions were difficult anyway, but we had a very difficult time in qualifying.’

Hamilton is closing in on the championship

Now it’s all about damage control again on Sunday. ‘The race is another story. “I do suffer from tire degradation, but that seems to be mainly in the front tires, so we may be able to solve this before the race by adjusting the position of the front wing,” Pérez hopes. Hamilton is 33 points behind him in the championship, and can start the race in third on Sunday. ‘It is not over yet. It will of course be very difficult to overtake, especially with the track conditions we have now, but we will see what we can still do and to what extent we can still recover.’
