Inter Miami CF announced today that it has signed legendary Spanish midfielder Sergio Busquets to a contract through the end of the 2025 Major League Soccer (MLS) season. The World Cup winner, nine-time La Liga winner and former FC Barcelona captain, who is considered one of the best midfielders of all time, will take up a Designated Player spot and is expected to join the team in the coming weeks.

Busquets’ impressive track record boasts several major titles with his teams, including helping Spain to the 2010 FIFA World Cup title and the UEFA Euro 2012 title. At club level, they have won LaLiga nine times, most recently winning the 2022-23 campaign, the FIFA Club World Cup three times, the UEFA Champions League three times and the Copa del Rey seven times.
The defensive midfielder has also received several individual accolades throughout his career. In particular, Busquets has been named once in the LaLiga Team of the Season and the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season, and once in the Eurocup Team of the Tournament. He was also named the 2009 LaLiga Breakthrough Player and the 2021 UEFA Nations League Player of the Tournament.
Prior to joining Inter Miami, Busquets spent his entire professional career with FC Barcelona, developing as a player at the renowned academy. The Farmhouse and becoming a club legend. In total, he played 143 minutes. games in Spain, the third most for a player in the history of the national team.
Busquets will be available to play for Inter Miami CF for the first time when the team takes on LIGA MX’s Cruz Azul on July 21 in the opening game of the Leagues Cup , a new competition in North American soccer for which teams from MLS and LIGA MX will put their respective league seasons on pause from July 21 to August 19 to determine the three teams that will qualify for the 2024 edition of the Concacaf Champions Cup. All 47 top division teams from Canada, Mexico and the United States will compete in the official Concacaf tournament in a World Cup-style format.
