– We want to free the Ukrainian people from the regime in the country, which is both against the people and against history, Lavrov said in Cairo on Sunday.

Lavrov has previously denied that Russia plans to overthrow the Ukrainian government.
He claimed to the Indian television channel India Today in April that Russia would let the Ukrainians decide which government they wanted after the invasion. The Russian foreign minister also said on Sunday that the grain agreement with Ukraine stands.
– Russian and Turkish forces will jointly ensure the safety of the cargo ships on the open sea, Lavrov said on Sunday, adding that it must be checked that the ships do not bring weapons to Ukraine.

The statement came just a day after Russia attacked an important grain export port in Odesa, Ukraine, which has been condemned by the UN and representatives of the European Union.
On Friday, Ukraine and Russia signed an agreement on the export of grain which, among other things, means that grain exports will resume from three Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea, and 22 million tonnes of Ukrainian grain can be sent out into the world.
