Serge Savard has never minced his words and he will not pretend to like Marc Bergevin. The “Senator” has never digested Bergevin’s lack of consideration for him after he had played an important role in his hiring as general manager in 2012.
In an interview on BPM Sports on Tuesday, Savard made several comments about the man who was succeeded by Kent Hughes after his dismissal in November 2021.
“Bergevin, his two five-year plans did not work. We have more hope with a management which is very, very superior to what we had before,” said Savard, who was speaking with host Tony Marinaro on the show “Le Forum.”
Later in the interview, he reiterated his confidence in the current management and took the opportunity to criticize Bergevin again.
“I have confidence in this management. It’s much more serious than before. When you look at Bergevin in his last year, he had one player on the team in his last seven drafts.
“We missed our shot by not surrounding Carey Price enough to form a championship team.”
This is not the first time that Savard has attacked Bergevin. August 2022, he deplored the treatment that the former GM of the Tricolore reserved for the former players of the organization.
After recommending Bergevin’s hiring to Geoff Molson in 2012, Savard tried to contact the new GM a few times to give him advice. However, Bergevin never deigned to return his calls.
