In a letter sent to elected officials on August 9, 2021, the ministers in charge of overseas territories and health announced the dispatch of new logistical and human capacities to strengthen the local teams mobilized in the fight against the pandemic. They also called for the responsibility and commitment of these same elected officials in order to make up for the delay in the vaccination of populations.
Serge Letchimy answered them yesterday (Wednesday 11 August). He first of all welcomes the solidarity and mobilization of the State, before formulating a proposal:
In view of the gravity of the situation, it now seems necessary to me to take a new step in the fight against the virus by setting up a military field hospital annexed to the CHUM, with an even larger bed capacity than we have. have known so far. Like the hospital of around thirty places erected in eight days in Mulhouse to respond to the situation in the Grand-Est in 2020, it now seems essential that such equipment be set up in Martinique.
President Letchimy recalls that the Territorial Collectivity of Martinique has fully assumed its responsibilities by mobilizing 250,000 euros to support the associative structures participating in listening to isolated people and in public health campaigns.
Likewise, the CTM has programmed 21 million euros of European funds on the Covid component alone for the University Hospital of Martinique (CHUM).
Finally, the President announced that he had released 8 million euros in advance payments from European funds to help the CHUM in the very short term.
