Bayern Munich performed great after the national break. The Bavarians played with Arminia Bielefeld and beat the newcomer 4: 1. Two goals in that game were scored by Robert Lewandowski, who is the leader of the scorer classification.
Bayern’s next rival was to be Atletico Madrid. This match was to be the first round of the Champions League. Now “Bild” reports that it is not known whether the match will take place at all. All because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Before Wednesday’s game against Atletico Madrid, Bayern’s players were tested for the presence of coronavirus and received the results on Tuesday. It turned out that one of the players – Serge Gnabry – had tested positive.
“Serge Gnabry tested positive for COVID-19. The offensive player FC Bayern is doing well. He is in quarantine at home,” reads the official website of the Bavarians.
According to journalists from “Bilda”, Gnabry took part in Tuesday morning training with the entire team. During the press conference, coach Hansi Flick said that all players except Leroy Sane and Tanguy Nianzou are ready to play.
Journalists add that it is not yet known what impact this information will have on Wednesday’s meeting with Atletico. According to UEFA regulations, a positive test does not have to lead to a match being canceled if a team has at least 13 healthy players (including at least one goalkeeper).
However, postponing the match is an equally possible option. “This would be the case if the authorities ordered a quarantine for the entire team. Thanks to training with infected Gnabry, it is quite possible,” reads “Bilda”.
Bayern’s meeting with Atletico was to start on Wednesday at 21:00.
