With the anniversary of Will Smith’s shocking Oscar slap around the corner, Serena Williams opened up about the incident in an interview with CBS Mornings’ Gayle King. When asked about her thoughts during the infamous moment, the Grand Slam champion said: “I thought it was such an amazing movie, and I feel like there was an amazing movie after that with Questlove that got overshadowed.” The tense situation occurred just before Rock announced the leader of The Roots as the winner of the Best Documentary category, according to People.
While Williams admitted that “The Slap” caused a bit of a distraction, he apparently added some words of support for Smith. “But I also feel like I’ve been in a position where I’ve been under a lot of pressure and made a lot of mistakes,” she explained. “I’m the type of person who says, ‘I was there. I made a mistake. It’s not the end of the world’. We’re all imperfect, and we’re all human, and let’s be kind to each other.”
