Serena Williams remains in the running for her 24th Grand Slam title at the French Open. After Irina-Camelia Begu, the 39-year-old American beats Mihaela Buzarnescu, a second Romanian.
However, she had to beat the world rankings-148. go over three sentences. After the 6: 3, 5: 7, 6: 1, Williams will meet her compatriot Danielle Collins in the third round, who reached the quarter-finals in Paris last year.
As with the women, the men’s lower half of the table was in action on Wednesday, those without Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Safiullin, like Otte a qualifier, led with a break in the last two sets.
