New York. American tennis player Serena Williams reported that she had a benign cyst “the size of a small grape” removed from her neck area and “everything was fine.”
Williams, who will retire in 2022, posted on social media Wednesday that they found a lump in his neck last May after an MRI and told him he didn’t need to have it removed if he didn’t want to. So she didn’t do it, “but she continued to grow,” the tennis player said.
After more tests, including a biopsy that came back negative for cancer, her doctors told her she should undergo a procedure.
Serena Williams, 43, showed a video of herself in a hospital bed and wrote: “So here I am taking it off. “I feel very grateful and lucky that everything turned out well, and above all, I am healthy.” In a separate message, he said he was “continuing to recover, but improving. “Health always comes first.”
Williams won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, the most by a woman in the sport’s professional era, and another 14 in doubles with her older sister Venus. In addition, she spent more than 300 weeks as number one in the WTA ranking and won four Olympic gold medals.
