“I publicly inform you that I have come to present my unwavering resignation to the position of Regional Ministerial Secretary of Health of the Magallanes Region and the Chilean Antarctic as of August 25”.
With these words and through a letter personally addressed to the minister Enrique Paris, the seremi of Health Mariela Rojas resigned this Sunday from her position, as confirmed Third.
In the letter Rojas pointed to the statements of the Secretary of State -emitted this afternoon in the daily balance of the Minsal-, which he described as “partial, erroneous and unacceptable.”
The foregoing after Magellan positioned itself – according to the latest epidemiological report published by Health – as the region with the highest incidence rate of active cases of Covid-19 in the country. In addition, this day registered the highest number of new daily infections since the beginning of the pandemic: 115.
In view of these data, Paris launched harsh criticism. The minister described the situation as “incomprehensible to the authorities” and, in this line, called on the health and regional authorities to “better coordinate” to reduce these figures.
“There is a local responsibility of the inhabitants, but also of our own authorities (…) it is the authorities who have to order the situation”, he pointed.
After this call, he said: “If not, God forbid, we are going to have a very large number of patients in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit again and once again we may have, hopefully not, a collapse.”
In the letter, the seremi de Salud de Magallanes assured that Paris had been untrue and that in Punta Arenas “the health system never collapsed and was not at risk of collapse either”. Adding that “You (Paris) seriously disrespect me and issue statements for the gallery without scientific rigor.”
“If you had acted correctly and in the face of the supposed catastrophe that Magellan will experience, you should have called me and talked about the matter, a question that you unfortunately did not do,” he said.
