Parliamentary and presidential elections will be held in Serbia on Sunday.

Parliamentary and presidential elections will be held in Serbia on Sunday. According to polls, President Aleksandar Vucic’s ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) will defend its majority. Vucic himself can also count on confirmation in office. Against the background of the Russian Ukraine war, which is supported by many Serbs, Vucic promised “peace” and “stability” during the election campaign. Previously dominant issues such as the environment and corruption lost importance.

According to polls, the most important challenger is former military chief Zdravko Ponos, who is supported by the pro-European opposition. However, observers do not expect Vucic to be voted out. Since taking office as president in 2017, he has consolidated his power and effectively controls the press and state institutions.
