The Serbian Air Force put a pair of MiG-29 fighter jets on standby due to an unidentified object spotted in the sky over the city of Valevo. In a statement by the Serbian Ministry of Defense reportsthat an unidentified aerial object was detected this morning at a height of five and a half kilometers.
“Today, at 10:39 a.m., the forces permanently involved in the control and protection of the sovereignty of the airspace of the Republic of Serbia intercepted an unknown flying object over Valevo at an altitude of 5,500 meters,” the Ministry of Defense reported.
Its appearance in sovereign airspace was reported to the President and Commander-in-Chief of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic. He gave the order to intercept the air target. In addition, according to the Ministry of Defense, air defense and radar missile units on duty have been put on heightened alert and continue to monitor the country’s airspace.
“As the duty pair of aircraft approached the intercept area, the target was lost to radar. The fighters continued their flight and conducted a survey of the area in accordance with procedure. After searching the area, the pair of fighter jets on duty were ordered to return to their airfield while other forces resumed regular airspace surveillance,” according to the Serbian Defense Ministry.
Valevo is located 100 kilometers west of the capital Belgrade. The city is home to the largest Serbian arms factory, “Krusik”.
Two days ago, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said his country would face a major threat to its national interests in the near future, without elaborating.
