Serbia | Edible spoons against contamination of disposable cutlery

LPlastic cutlery is one of the main culprits in the growing plastic waste crisis. Tired of seeing mountains of plastic cutlery littering the streets and parks, a group of Serbian engineers decided to make a change. They decided to make cutlery that could be eaten rather than thrown away.

In a Serbian company they have cut to the chase the problem of contamination of disposable cutlery. In the town of Banatski Karlovac they produce spoons that are eaten.

They are made from millet, eggs and honey, without artificial colors or additives.

They taste like cocoa and cinnamon. The next step is to produce drinking straws that can be eaten after use.

Currently, ten workers produce about 20,000 cinnamon and cocoa flavored spoons in a single shift. The next step is to introduce edible straws.
