Serbia and North Macedonia to Jointly Apply for EU Funds for High-Speed Rail Project

The Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, announced that a memorandum was signed with North Macedonia, according to which the two countries will jointly apply to the EU for funds to build a section of the high-speed railway line Nis – Skopje, the cable news channel “N1” reported “, quoted by BGNES.

“When it is completed, the journey from Skopje to Belgrade will also take three hours. This will drastically change the lives of citizens,” Vesic said.

In Serbia, the implementation of the project to build a high-speed railway line to Nis, the largest city in the south of the country, which is largely financed by EU grants in the amount of 600 million euros, has started.

“When this section is completed, the journey from Belgrade to Nis will take 100 minutes,” added Vesic.

The Serbian minister recalled that the construction of the high-speed railway line from Belgrade to Budapest is underway, which is being built by Chinese companies and which, according to him, should be completed by 2025.

This is how the north-south transport corridor develops, while the European corridor No. 8 along the Skopje-Sofia line remains in the background. There is still no railway between the two capitals, although there has been an intention for a century and a half.
