CF Montreal’s unbeaten streak came to a standstill at six following a 1-0 loss to New York City FC on Wednesday night at Red Bull Arena.

The Montreal team, often apathetic or overwhelmed, has not achieved a new team record in MLS in addition to playing one of its worst games for a long time.
It is a goal of Ismael Tajouri-Shradi (29e minute) which made the difference in this match played once again in a neutral venue, Yankee Stadium not being available. The other match between the two teams was played in Orlando earlier this month.
Rotation
In a second game of a three-day streak, Wilfried Nancy turned his squad around with five changes, giving a rest to Mason Toye and Djordje Mihailovic, among others.
Without Toye in front, he trusted Bjørn Johnsen and Sunusi Ibrahim, who did not show great complicity.
“In the second half, we had a little more trouble touching the players in the depth. We wanted to see something different while considering our game in a few days.
“In the last ten minutes, we ran out of binder in the game. We had a bit of trouble finding speed and putting him in danger in the final third. “
The team still remains tied with Orlando for fourth in the East with 22 points, but New York has moved closer to 20 points.
Flared defense
For a second consecutive game, the Montreal defense was very flared, leaving plenty of room for opposing attackers. The absences of Kamal Miller and Kiki Struna were really felt.
There was also a lack of communication between James Pantemis and his supporters. Pantemis also had a hard time judging some balls and it’s getting a bit worrying. This is what led to Ismael Tajouri-Shradi’s goal at the 29e minute. Back to the ball cleared by Luis Barraza, Zorhan Bassong misjudged the ball which also jumped away from him while Pantemis was not communicating with his defender.
“We were not clear on the goal and on the long duel where James advances and stops. I felt that too, ”Nancy agreed.
Center-back Kiki Struna has completed his quarantine and has resumed training at Center Nutrilait. He did not accompany the team to New Jersey.

Z. Brault-Guillard, V. Wanyama, A. Hamdi, M. Kizza (replaced by L. Lappalainen at 71e minute), J. Torres (replaced by D. Mihailovic at the 60e minute).
Attacker:
B. Johnsen, S. Ibrahim (replaced by Maso Toye at 71e minute).
He has interesting times where he holds the ball well. He really tries to generate opportunities.
VICTOR ANIMALS
A bit like a metronome, it offers an average performance of what it can give.
RUDY CAMACHO
He is a little too often sucked in by his opponent, but he is the only safe bet in central defense and must compensate the others.
DJORDJE MIHAILOVIC
With good runs he tries to energize the attack when he comes into the game.
JAMES PANTEMIS
He lacks responsiveness on Tajouri-Shradi’s goal and misjudges some balls. He also seems to have communication problems with his defenders.
JOAQUIN TORRES
He experienced a few sharp moments during the first half, he created space for himself with his mobility and agility, but he slowed down quickly and ran out of fuel, not used to playing so much.
SUNUSI IBRAHIM
Didn’t carry much weight on the game with a handful of half-moments.
ZACHARY BRAULT-GUILLARD
Confidence shaken? We don’t know, but he really doesn’t have the same aplomb as at the start of the season.
JOEL WATERMAN
Another difficult evening in terms of positioning. He often gets caught behind in the game.
ZORHAN BASSONG
He misjudges the ball and is beaten too easily on Tajouri-Shradi’s goal.
MUSTAFA KIZZA
He lacks complementarity with Bassong and he also shows a limited vision of the game in certain situations.
BJØRN JOHNSEN
Besides a strike on the crossbar, he has not yet generated much from this meeting.
