Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
A series of phenomena astronomy will happen in the sky Indonesia in the second week to the end of September. The phenomena range from the Moon-Jupiter-Saturn Triple Conjunction to Equinox September.
The National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) disclosed these phenomena through their official accounts and websites.
The following is a summary of astronomy in the second week of September 2021.
Moon-Jupiter-Saturn Triple Conjunction
LAPAN reports that the moon is in triple conjunction with Jupiter and Saturn. This space phenomenon lasted from 16 to 19 September. It can be seen from 20 minutes after sunset from the East-Southeast direction until 02:40 local time from the West-Southwest direction.
Conjunction is the configuration of the planet when the longitude of the planet is at the same position as the Sun.
There are two conjunctions, namely above and in. Upper conjunction is the position of an inferior planet when it has the same longitude as the Sun and is behind the Sun.
While the inner conjunction is the position of the inferior planet when the planet has the same longitude as the longitude of the Sun and is located between the Earth and the Sun.
Apoge Mars
Mars, according to LAPAN, is farthest from Earth on September 20 at 18.33 WIB/19.33 WITA/20.33 WIT at 2,638 sa or 394.7 million kilometers. This phenomenon is called Apoge.
Due to the close angle of separation between Mars and the Sun, which is 5.86 degrees, Mars cannot be seen throughout the night.
This phenomenon occurs every two years. Apoge Mars will again occur on October 18, 2023 and November 30, 2025.
Full Moon Phase
The full moon is the phase of the Moon that is visible 100 percent of the Earth’s surface. The moon orbits the Earth every four weeks (29.5 days), causing the part that is exposed to visible light to fluctuate.
At its closest distance, the Moon will appear slightly larger than usual. The moon will rise at 18:09 WIB, reach its peak at 00:31 WIB, and set at 05:42 WIB the next day.
The peak of the full moon phase in September 2021 will occur on September 21 at 06.54 WITA/07.54 WITA/08.54 WIT.
Observation of the full moon can be directly using the naked eye, binoculars, or small telescopes.
September Equinox
According to LAPAN, the September Equinox is the point of intersection of the ecliptic and the celestial equator through which the Sun passes in the Sun’s apparent annual journey from the Northern Hemisphere sky to the Southern Hemisphere sky.
The September equinox will occur on September 23 at 02.20 WIB/03.20 WITA/04.20 WIT.
At the equinox phenomenon, the Sun will rise almost exactly in the East and set just in the West.
