A group of 19 suicide bombers, most of whom came from Saudi Arabia, hijacked four planes that Tuesday morning to use to attack several symbols of America.
The first target at 8:46 was the north tower of the New York World Trade Center (WTC), 17 minutes later a second plane crashed into the south tower. The two skyscrapers, which were icons of the city, then collapsed. Without the hijackers, 2606 people died, and another 147 died on board the planes.
