Sepp Straka made it into the top 10 on Moving Day

Golf like in the movie “Happy Gilmore” – at least there are alligators on the golf course at the Honda Classic 2023, like in the popular golf comedy. On the moving day of the PGA Tour, the spectators not only had to watch out for the Florida sun, but also for the alligators in the PGA National Resort.

Meanwhile, things are also getting exciting on the leaderboard. Chris Kirk takes first place with 13 under par, while Justin Suh is in third place. Meanwhile, at -11, Eric Cole is waiting for his chance on the final day. From a German-speaking point of view, defending champion Sepp Straka made it into the top 10 with an outstanding start to the round. Stephan Jäger and Matthias Schwab also used the moving day and improved by three strokes.

Sepp Straka: Is it possible to defend the title on the PGA Tour?

Sepp Straka clinched his well-deserved PGA Tour title at the last edition of the Honda Classic and is fighting his way closer to victory every day. After a mixed start and improvement on day 2, he now uses the moving day and places himself in the top 10. With a terrific series of birdies at the start of the round, the Austrian scored four shots under par. With two more birdies, but also two bogeys in the course of the round it stayed with this result. The boost early in the lap was enough to earn a tied eighth place, six strokes behind leader Chris Kirk. This means that victory for Straka is no longer completely out of reach, but it would be a big surprise.

Stephan Jäger and Matthias Schwab also used the third day in Florida for a climb on the leaderboard. With two rounds of 67, both are now in the 30s. Jäger was able to hole five birdies, but the two bogeys on the front nine threw him back to three under par. This means that Jäger has improved by 17 places on the leaderboard.

Matthias Schwab, on the other hand, suffered an annoying double bogey on lane 6. The par 4 runs along a water hazard and Schwab twisted his shot to the left into this same obstacle. Luckily for him, the ball was still playable, but he only managed a short hit on the right side of the fairway. From there he needed another 4 shots to the flag and noted the 6 on the scorecard. He also holed five birdies and thus gives hope for the final day.
