“But why is he no longer playing? This question, with regard to the American winger Steven Green (28 years) has often rocked, Saturday evening, in the spans of the Jean-Cochet hall and especially to the post-match VIP, of the one lost to Besançon (72-77). With ifs, yes, perhaps the C’Chartres BM would have won, with Green, facing the 9th in the championship. But that is not the question. Steven Green’s playing time at CCBM stopped on November 16 …
Chartres signe Steven Green (09/06/2021)
It was in Limoges, during a historic 16th final of the Coupe de France against this Betclic Elite, that Steven Green was seen for the last time. A match that, logically, the native of Phoenix (Arizona) should not have played. Four days previously, he had not participated in the victory of his club in Le Havre (85-91). It was the Serbian Dejan Sencanski, back in the N1 group nine months after a broken hand and who did not even appear in Sébastien Lambert’s plans at the start of the season, who had been preferred to him.
Milan Vasic: “Steven Green is doing his stats but …”
On November 12, a few minutes before this match in Le Havre, there was a message on the CCBM’s Facebook: “Following a choice of coaching, Steven Green will not be on the field tonight. He is replaced by Dejan Sencanski.”
His absence will not prevent Sébastien Lambert’s group from winning after extra time, notably with 17 units from Sencanski.
A week later, for the reception in Avignon (success 94-87), still no Steven Green. The answer was to be found on the side of the local Facebook: “Sick”. But, we could already see the annoyance emerging from the side of the Chartres staff by trying to widen this sudden absence of a player to whom there was almost nothing to reproach at the statistical level. Not exceptional but correct stats: 13.6 points, 3.8 rebounds in 29 minutes at 12 to assess.
Too individualistic a player?
Correct, down to one point, assists: 1.9. This does not say anything to the laymen of the orange ball, but it is a figure which partly explains the sudden disappearance of the tablets and the bench of the ex-player of Andrézieux, who was doing well in the Loire (14.3 points , 4.4 rebounds to 12.9 of eval), but whose Achilles heel was also at the level of the passes: 1.6.
Individualist the American? Chartres had not been used in recent seasons to this kind of concern with Will Felder or with the one whose name still resonates with Cochet, Du’Vaughn Maxwell. Admittedly, the Cleveland player and the New Yorker weren’t in the same position as Green, operating more under the circle, but the dedication of these interiors had been repeatedly emphasized. Far from being the case with Steven Green.
“Already, during the Andrézieux match (2nd day!), I had pointed out the egocentric behavior of the player. “
Milan Vasic (Manager of CCBM)

Over time, the club thought they could solve this problem. But, over the matches, the navel-gazing of the American ended up exasperating the locker room. The worm was in the fruit.
No return to N1 possible
“One thing is certain, it is impossible to reinstate Steven Green in the group”, commented Milan Vasic, in advanced discussion with the agent of the American.
“Steven Green does his stats, unlike others, but we are heading for a separation,” added the manager from Chartres, arrived, like the whole club, at the point of no return with Green. It is now up to the CCBM to find a way out. And it will not be in N1, regulations oblige, surely abroad.
The experience of a first American as a winger * will therefore have come to an end in Chartres, which will continue the season with Dejan Sencanski. Despite his 37 years, the Serbian, with eleven seasons in N1, remains a safe bet. At any point of view.
* Since Chartres evolves in N1, two foreigners, before Green, had been recruited in post 3: the Serbs Zeljko Bojovic (2011-13) and… Dejan Sencanski (2019-…).
