It was found that in the 2023 Seoul National University regular recruitment, which reflects the school report (subject evaluation), the percentage of successful applicants for general high school and high school seniors increased simultaneously.

As a result of analyzing the ‘2023 regular admission selection results’ announced by Seoul National University on the 2nd, Jongno Academy announced that 57.7% of all students who passed regular admission were from regular high schools, a 1.6 percentage point increase from last year (56.1%).

Seoul National University selected a total of 1,415 students in this year’s regular recruitment, including 1206 general admissions, 136 regional balanced selections, 68 equal opportunity selection special screenings II, and 5 equal opportunity selection special screenings III.

Of the admitted students, 33.1% (468 students) were from special purpose high schools such as science high schools, foreign language high schools, international high schools, autonomous private private high schools, and gifted high schools, a decrease of 2.6 percentage points from last year (35.7%).

The percentage of high school seniors was 41.1% (582 students), up 2.7 percentage points from last year (38.4%). On the other hand, the percentage of students who passed the ‘N exam’, including retakers, was 57.3% (811 students), down 1.2 percentage points from last year (58.5%). The percentage of successful applicants for retakes was 39.7% (562 students), a slight increase from last year (38.1%), but 17.6% (249 students) for third-year students or higher, a significant drop from the previous year (20.5%). The percentage of students who passed the qualification exam also decreased from last year (3.0%) to 1.6% (22 students).

Lim Seong-ho, CEO of Jongno Academy, analyzed, “Since Seoul National University started including school records in regular school hours this year, there has been a consistent trend of a decrease in the ratio of special purpose high schools and private high schools and ‘N students’, and a rise in the ratio of students enrolled in general high schools.”

Seoul National University reflected subject evaluation, a qualitative evaluation element, for the first time in the 2023 academic year. In addition to the CSAT score, the progress of subject learning was reflected in absolute evaluation (A, B, C grades) to evaluate whether the school curriculum was faithfully completed.

This year, the acceptance rate for female students at Seoul National University was 35.7%, down from 37.0% last year.

Jongno Academy believed that after the integrated liberal arts and science college entrance exam, male students received higher scores in mathematics, resulting in a lower percentage of female students. In the 2021 school year, before the integrated exam, the percentage of female students who passed the exam was 40.6%, but it went down to 35.7% this year, following 37.0% in 2022, the first year of the integrated exam. The percentage of students residing in Seoul stood at 48.5%, up from 44.4% last year.
