Seoul Hospitality Week begins on the 28th of last month and runs until the 6th of last month by operating hospitality booths at Myeong-dong and Gimpo Airports, providing cultural and experience events, and various discount coupons for foreign tourists visiting Korea. It is expected that 75,000 Chinese tourists will visit Korea during this week (September 29 to October 6) as China’s major holidays, the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, are held.
At this event, Mayor Oh visited the ‘Myeongdong Mobile Hospitality Booth’ and inspected the experience zone, including K desserts and traditional games, while also hearing an explanation of the ‘welcome gift package’ provided to foreigners visiting the hospitality booth.
Mayor Oh then inspected the hygiene, prices, and price tags of food being sold at street stores in Myeong-dong. Since last July, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has been intensively inspecting the implementation of the price labeling system, food hygiene conditions, and illegal occupation of sidewalks in the Myeong-dong area along with Jung-gu, Seoul and the police.

After completing the inspection of the Myeong-dong area, Mayor Oh said, “In order for Seoul to become a world-class tourist city, it is important to instill a positive perception of Seoul.” He added, “As Myeong-dong is a special tourist zone representing Seoul and Korea, “We will continue to inspect store and restaurant prices, hygiene, and exorbitant rates at taxis and lodging establishments,” he said.
On the 27th of last month, the city of Seoul announced that it would form a joint inspection team with the district office and the tourist police to focus on cracking down on excessive taxi fares and illegal guesthouse establishments in major tourist destinations such as Myeong-dong and Gyeongbokgung Palace. The Seoul Metropolitan Government explained, “This is a measure to improve the quality and image of Seoul tourism.”
Meanwhile, Mayor Oh also visited festival sites held throughout downtown Seoul that day. Mayor Oh visited the ‘Seoul Street Arts Festival’ held at City Hall Plaza in Jung-gu, Seoul and encouraged street art officials.
Afterwards, in the evening, we watched the ‘2023 Hangang Light Performance’ held at Ttukseom Hangang Park in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul with citizens. The Hangang Light Performance is an event that decorates the night sky of Seoul by flying 1,000 drones, and will be held every Friday at Ttukseom Hangang Park until October 27th.
