Seoul Institute of Medical Sciences, support for training for project to strengthen cooperation in response to infectious diseases in Mongolia: Health & Welfare News

Health and Welfare News】 Seoul Medical Science Research Institute (SCL), a foundation, announced on the 21st that it had conducted an invitational training program (hereinafter referred to as NCCD training program) to strengthen the human capacity of the Mongolian Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (NCCD) to respond to infectious diseases.

The ‘NCCD training program’ is part of the ‘Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency’s project to strengthen cooperation in response to infectious diseases in Mongolia’ that the Seoul Institute of Medical Sciences is carrying out together with the Yonsei University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation.

This was a program to invite and train testing personnel from the Mongolian Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s microbiology laboratory in Korea, and was conducted at a total of three institutions: Seoul Institute of Medical Sciences, Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, and Yonsei University Severance Hospital.

In order to actively participate in the purpose of establishing a program called ‘Strengthening the human capacity of the Mongolian Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’, the Seoul Medical Research Institute conducted a training course in the field of diagnostic testing and specimen transportation system for two days from November 18th to 19th.

The trainees received a tour of the Seoul Institute of Medical Science, as well as training in the field of microbial diagnostic testing and specimen transportation systems to strengthen antimicrobial resistance surveillance testing capabilities. They also observed various practical activities and learned cutting-edge testing methods in the domestic diagnostic laboratory medicine field.

In particular, starting with a lecture by Lee Mi-kyung, director of the diagnostic testing division at the Seoul Institute of Medical Science, the quality control and operation plan of the MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer, the latest microbial identification testing equipment, and domestic and international specimen transfer system were practically explained through field-oriented training and high-level expert lectures. I made it possible for you to experience it.

Lee Kyung-won, director of the Seoul Institute of Medical Sciences Academy, said, “Strengthening response to public health crises across Eurasia, including Northeast Asia, has become a more important national task than anything else.” He added, “This human capacity building program of the Mongolian Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will improve trainees’ antimicrobial resistance surveillance and testing capabilities.” “We hope that it will help not only improve but also strengthen cooperation in national infectious disease response,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Seoul Medical Science Research Institute was established as a testing agency in 1983 and has contributed to the promotion of public health and the development of the medical field through systematic sample analysis services.

In 1998, we obtained our first certification from CAP (College of American Pathologists), an international quality control organization, and have continued to make efforts to improve the quality of testing.

In 2021, it obtained ‘internationally recognized ISO 15189 recognition’ and is recognized as an international standard in the medical testing field.

In addition, it is firmly establishing its position as a specialized research and overseas entrusted institution utilizing R&D laboratories and global research networks.
