450,000 people participated… 8 billion accumulated in the second round alone

Ms. A, a woman in her 30s living in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, participated in ‘Wrist Doctor 9988,’ a Seoul-style smart healthcare service led by Oh Se-hoon. She was able to make it a habit to take care of her health by measuring her steps and collecting points using a smart watch and mobile app.
Users receive 200 points if they wear the watch and walk more than 8,000 steps a day. If you walk more than three times a week, you get an additional 500 points. If you enter two or more meals a day into the app, you can earn up to 50 points. Just by accessing the app, you receive 10 attendance points. In this way, a maximum of 100,000 points can be accumulated per person over 6 months. Mr. A accumulated 80,000 points by walking around for about 8 months, which is equivalent to 80,000 won in cash. Points were converted to Seoul Pay and used at nearby convenience stores.
According to the distribution industry and the Seoul Metropolitan Government on the 8th, points worth approximately 8 billion won were accumulated in the second project of ‘Wrist Doctor 9988’, which recruited participants from December 2022 to the 17th of last month. Among these, about 600 million won worth of points were converted into cash and used at convenience stores.
The industry predicts that the amount of point payments used at convenience stores will increase as the end of the year approaches. According to Shinhan Card, which acts as a payment agency, the number of points used as cash at convenience stores last month increased four-fold compared to April of this year, the month after convenience stores were confirmed as the first place of use. An official from the Smart Health Department of the Seoul Metropolitan Government advised, “The points of participants in the second project will expire if they are not used by the end of the year. It is better to exchange them for Seoul Pay and use them quickly before they disappear.”

Wrist Doctor 9988 is an integrated service for self-health management operated by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. Points can be used like cash at over 70,000 locations in Seoul, including hospitals, sports facilities, convenience stores, and bookstores.
It has also been available for use in convenience stores and bookstores since March of this year. In the early stages of the project, use was limited to health industries such as hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies. This is in consideration of the business purpose of improving the health of Seoul citizens. In order to provide a wider range of benefits, the city of Seoul also added convenience facilities as a use area. Although convenience stores were the last to be included as a place of use, their usage amount is currently the highest.
The number of new subscribers to the Wrist Doctor 9988 project this year amounts to 450,000 (including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overlapping participants). It is known that Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon is so attached to the product that he even bought milk at a convenience store with the points he received from walking.
