The Seoul Metropolitan Government released a press release that afternoon and said, “As 1~3cm of snowfall is forecast in the metropolitan area, the first stage of snow removal will begin emergency work from 12:00.” The Meteorological Administration predicted that snow would fall between afternoon and night, mainly in inland areas.
According to the city, about 4,000 people and 1,000 snow removal vehicles and equipment are preparing for snow removal work as of the first stage of the situation. The policy is to prepare for snowfall by spraying snow removal agents in advance on steep slopes and vulnerable roads. The city also requested the police to cooperate to prevent delays in the operation of snow-plow vehicles due to traffic congestion.
Prior to this, the city of Seoul was criticized by public opinion for not performing snow removal in time during the heavy snowfall on the 6th to 7th for the inconvenience of citizens. Since then, Seo Jeong-hyup, acting mayor of Seoul, officially apologized for the’late snow removal’.
Seoul City Safety Officer Han Je-Hyun said, “Today snow may continue until after work, so citizens are advised to refrain from using cars and use public transportation when leaving work.”
