Rosa Mota is still in great shape at 65! The Olympic marathon champion in Seoul’1988 and bronze medalist in Los Angeles’1984 was in great evidence at the 48th edition of the São Silvestre da Amadora (10 km), where she had a blazing time of… 39.40 minutes, having crushed the your age group (65 years old). In the general classification, the former Olympian was 14th in the women’s sector, having considerably improved the time obtained in the 2022 edition (42.15). To understand the scale of this result, Rosa Mota will have broken the world distance record in this category, improving the time of German Angela Copson (41.40, from 2012). In addition to this historic record, the veteran Portuguese athlete also became the first woman to complete the 10 km at a pace of less than 4 minutes per kilometer. As for her passage halfway through the race, Rosa Mota will have improved the 5km world record, with 19.58 minutes, better than the North American Kathryn Martin (20.08, from 2016). These historical milestones now need to be validated by the responsible entities.

As for the traditional end-of-year race in Amadora, the female winner was Ana Mafalda Ferreira, from Sporting, who had already won in 2018 and 2019, with 34.40 minutes, ahead of Mónica Silva, from Salgueiros (34.51) and Joana Ferreira, from Águeda (34.57), second and third placed, respectively.

As for the men’s race, the fastest was Rúben Amaral, with a time of 30.19 minutes. The Leo athlete crossed the finish line in first place and put his name on the list of winners for the first time. The Sporting athlete overcame competition from Duarte Gomes, from Benfica (30.28) and David Silva, from Sp. Braga (30.42).

The winners of the absolute competition received a monetary prize of 1,500 euros, with the runners-up receiving 1,000 euros each. The third parties raised 750 euros, in a competition where there were also monetary prizes for the first 25 classified.
