The district court of Päijät-Häme has sentenced three men to prison for crimes committed with terrorist purposes.

According to the district court, Nyman manufactured and tried to manufacture weapons and their parts with a 3D printer in Lahti. He had in his possession a considerable quantity of cartridges suitable for weapons.

In addition, Nyman trained by obtaining instruction in the manufacture of firearms and explosives, and by practicing shooting with weapons that he had made. He also planned to make a serial firearm.

According to the district court, Nyman’s operation had two phases. He was imprisoned after the first phase and continued to manufacture weapons immediately after his release.

Nyman was convicted of two aggravated firearms crimes committed with terrorist intent, two counts of training for the commission of a terrorist crime, and one drug crime.

He denied the charges for the most part, but admitted to making weapons with a 3D printer.

According to the court, Nyman and the man born in 1996 had embraced the extreme right-wing idea of ​​accelerationism, which incites a race war leading to the collapse of a democratic society. According to the idea, the war is waged against immigrants, ethnic and religious minorities, anti-fascists and social influencers.

The district court considered that the purpose of the criminal activity was to cause serious fear among the population, i.e. the crimes were committed with terrorist intent.

In connection with the investigation of terrorist crimes, the police found lists of names and addresses that the men considered to be their political opponents.

The police used the markings as intelligence on possible attack targets.

The men communicated, among other things, about striking the then Prime Minister Sanna Marin’s event in Lahti and the Helsinki without Nazis event.

According to the court, the conversations between Nyman and others were an essential part of the evidence. The conversations used racist and far-right terminology and discussed vandalism and violence against perceived opponents.

However, according to the court, the convicted were not accused of preparing a terrorist attack, nor were they alleged to have formed a terrorist group as defined in the criminal law.

In 2001, the man was convicted of aiding and abetting a felony firearm offense committed with terrorist intent and training for the commission of a terrorist offense, as well as a minor firearm offense. He was sentenced to a seven-month suspended prison sentence and an accompanying fine.

According to the court, the youngest convict promoted Nyman’s crimes, among other things, by ordering him weapon launch mechanisms.

He fired bullets at Nyman and the man born in 1996. The district court found the act of the oldest convict highly reprehensible, as he was aware of the motives of the buyers.

The trial in Päijät-Häme district court lasted five days and there were three judges hearing the case.

The oldest of the convicted and in 1996 appealed the district court’s verdict to the Court of Appeal of Eastern Finland, which did not change the verdict of either of them.
