Huppert moved to Israel in 2012 to be closer to his two young children, after his former partner returned to the country the previous year when their two children were three months and five years old.

Soon after, their mother took a case to an Israeli court, which issued a so-called “stay-of-exit” order against her for her “future debt” of 5,000 Israeli shekels per month, until both children were 18 years old.

“The total in 2013 was roughly 7.5 million (USD3.34 million),” said Huppert, who works as an analytical chemist for a pharmaceutical company.

Until he pays the money, Huppert is prohibited from leaving the state of Israel for any reason – not even for vacation or work.

“Since 2013, I have been locked up in Israel,” he said, as quoted from news.com.au, Monday (12/27/2021).
