Sent student in quarantine quarantine: – Threatened principal: Father arrested

On Thursday morning local time, the police in Tuscon, Arizona received a message from a primary school just outside the city center.

The father of a student and two other men, equipped with strips, had stepped up to the school and demanded a meeting with the principal. The men are then said to have threatened the principal with carrying out a “civil arrest” of her.

The background? A corona case and a subsequent quarantine infection, writes Washington Post.

Had to be quarantined

The case started earlier that morning.

One or more of the school’s approximately 600 students had been diagnosed with the coronavirus, and in connection with the school’s infection detection, several other students were defined as close contacts.

The school staff then called the parents of the students concerned. The message was clear: The students who were close contacts had to be quarantined for at least a week.

This meant that the students in quarantine in that case missed a class trip, and the father of a student who was to be in quarantine would not accept that.

– A tough day

Therefore, the father, the son who was to be quarantined and two other men went to school. Inside the school, they went to the principal of the primary school and confronted her with the school’s guidelines for quarantine.

Equipped with strips, the men are said to have threatened the principal with carrying out a “civil arrest” of her, unless the son was allowed to return to school immediately.

The principal then allegedly asked the three men to leave the place immediately. When they did not, the school called the police.

– Today was a tough day. One of the most powerful tools adults have is how we behave in front of children. “The behavior that was shown today makes me really sad,” John Carruth, the chief of schools in the region, told the Washington Post.

– Felt threatened

In a statement reproduced by the Associated Press (AP), the principal, Diane Vargo, tells how she experienced the incident.

– I felt offended when they (the men, journ.anm.) Stood in my office and claimed that I broke the law and said that they were going to arrest me. Two of the men were not parents at the school, so I felt threatened, says Vargo.

AP further writes that a video from parts of the incident, was published on social media after the incident. It must have been one of the two men who were not parents at the school, who captured and then published the video.

This shows that the principal speaks to the three men calmly and that she asks them to leave the place, according to AP.

The father of the school student in question was arrested, while the other two men are under investigation by the police, writes AP.

It is uncertain how they will react to the arrest and the investigation, respectively.
