Masked men attacked the post office, handcuffed the guard, but the alarm drove them away without taking the money
A sensor of a security company saved a robbery of BGN 1 million for the pensions of the elderly in Vidin, after three masked men tried to take them away.
The brazen attack took place at the central post office of the Danube town around 5 am on Sunday. Payment of pensions begins on Monday.
According to unofficial information, the bandits came in a black BMW. Three came down from it, masked and armed. They entered through a side entrance, neutralized the security guard hired by Bulgarian Posts. He was in his room and the criminals handcuffed him.
Then they went to the vault, where the pensions were stored, but a sensor of the security company hired by the post office stopped them. After the alarm went off, the bandits fled without taking a penny, and police and security company officers arrived on the scene.
After the thwarted attack in the Vidin post office, a dispute broke out in absentia between the local prosecutor’s office and Bulgarian Posts over whether the money was well kept.

There will be no delay in pensions and schedules will be met, said the caretaker Minister of Transport Georgi Todorov. He pointed out that he had ordered an internal inspection.
