Resigned Prime Minister Kiril Petkov revealed positive news after his visit to Azerbaijan. He was a guest on the show “On Focus” on “Nova TV”.
“Azerbaijan can supply Bulgaria with an additional 500 million to 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year,” he announced.
Petkov met in Baku with President Ilham Aliyev and discussed with him the possibility of Bulgaria receiving additional supplies of Azeri gas. According to Petkov, however, an option for the infrastructure on which deliveries will be made is yet to be found.
“We are working on the issue,” said Petkov. “But the good thing is that there is no point in talking about infrastructure if there is no gas. In this case, there is gas, we have to come up with the infrastructure.”
Petkov did not specify for what periods and at what prices the deliveries can be made.
The news about the possibility of additional supplies of natural gas from Azerbaijan comes against the background of the European Commission’s new strategy to reduce the dependence of EU countries on Russian gas, which provides for supplies from alternative sources.
