“It’s great, a historic success, the Czech colors have never been so high in the team competition in juniors,” cheered the head of the home association, Petr Moravec, after the battle.
–
Kvěch and Chlupáč entered the race brilliantly, beating the home Danes narrowly 5:4, clearly managing the Swedes and Australians 7:2 and leading after three races.
–
But then they were slowed down by the Poles, to whom they easily succumbed. They weren’t even enough for the Latvians (3:6), but they could still keep their hopes alive in a battle full of falls. In the last run of the regular season, Kvěch and Chlupáč took second and third place, and the Czechs thus defeated the British 5:4, which meant that both teams sent the ambitious Latvians out of the game and immediately clashed again in the play-off to see who would go to the final with the Poles.
–
Kvěch left Brennan behind, Chlupáč finished third and together they fought for the possibility of revenge against the Poles, who, however, did not miss the chance for the ninth title in a row and the fifteenth overall.
–
The Czech pair tied in the final for leader Miskowiak, at the finish line it would have meant a 5:4 win and the title, but in the third of four rounds, Cierniak overtook the second Kvěch. Chlupač’s motorcycle failed, which helped the Poles to an overall triumph.
–
The third member of the Czech team, Matouš Kameník, who replaced the originally nominated Daniel Klíma at the last moment, did not get a chance during the evening.
–
Kvěch and Chlupáč will be seen again in Vojens on Saturday, together with Václav Milík, they qualified for the final of the adult team competition with an excellent performance on Thursday.
