Filming on the sequel to the film “Gladiator” is expected to start in May this year, Kontaktmusic portal reported, quoted by BTA.
Director Sir Ridley Scott and his crew are selecting the cast ahead of production’s scheduled start in Ouarzazate, Morocco. Russell Crowe is expected to reprise his role as Maximus in the throwback footage from the original 2000 Gladiator.
Plot details of the new production are kept strictly secret. The young Lucius, son of the Empress Lucilla, is believed to be the sequel’s link to the original film.
A source close to the production told British newspaper The Sun that an idea for a sequel to the epic drama had existed since 2018, but long believed nothing would come of the idea. However, last year the production team received an inspirational script and preparations are already underway. The film should be ready in 2024.
