Sennheiser wants to compete with Røde and DJI to offer simple wireless microphone kits that can be connected to cameras and phones.
Sennheiser Profile Wireless consists of three units – two transmitters with both a built-in microphone and mosquito connector, a receiver with analog and digital output and a charging unit that can function as a handheld microphone.
The radio system uses the usual wifi frequency 2.4 Mhz with a range of up to almost 250 meters. If interference occurs or the signal becomes too weak, recording starts immediately in the transmitters, which each have 16 GB of storage. It is also possible to activate the recording manually.
Another safety feature is the ability to use one of the stereo channels to record at a lower level to avoid distortion if the sound source turns out to be unexpectedly loud. However, there is no 32-bit fluid sound that is independent of recording level – unlike the DJI Mic 2 and Røde Wireless Pro.
Sennheiser does not specify the data depth of the recording, but presumably it is 24-bit as this is offered via digital output. It comes with connection for both USB-C and Apple Lightning.
The recommended price for the Sennheiser Profile Wireless is SEK 3,450 including VAT.
