Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless is coming this autumn – Sound & Vision

Sennheiser has released a teaser of the upcoming noise-canceling headphones Momentum 4 Wireless, which will be released in August. This is three years after the launch of its predecessor, the very good ones Momentum 3 Wireless.

I the press releases we are told that the headphones get a «completely new lightweight design». From the picture you can see that the headphones have received design elements from the wireless Momentum True Wireless, among other things with a cloth-covered headband that matches the charging case to Momentum True Wireless 3, where the fabric goes almost all the way down to the hinges. This is in contrast to previous Momentum headphones, where the hoop is leather-wrapped, but with aluminum that extends from the cups all the way up to the temple. Furthermore, the headphones get more comfortable ear cushions in synthetic leather, or “deep-cushioned”, as Sennheiser writes.

Twice as long battery life

Where most competitors operate with 25-30 hours of battery life, where Sennheiser has previously said it is satisfied with 17 hours on Momentum 3 Wireless, it is claimed that the upcoming headphones get a full 60 hours of playing time on one charge! It does not say whether it is with noise reduction activated or deactivated, but we assume the latter. In any case, it will be much longer than what the closest competitors can boast, and if the headphones also have fast charging (which is an expectation these days), then you hardly have to worry about the headphones running out during the holiday trip.

Does battery life go beyond sound?

Then Sony with WH-1000XM4 increased battery life from 24 to 30 hours, it was not just because of better battery and more energy-saving Bluetooth technology. They had also made a compromise in the deep bass register, as the headphones had a built-in one high-pass filter around 40 Hz. Admittedly, the successor 1000XM5 now has a good deal of juicier deep bass, it also boasts 30 hours of battery life, as much as possible.

With Momentum 4, Sennheiser promises a sound quality that “surpasses everything else in the class”. A hefty claim. But before we hear them, we think there’s reason to take this with a pinch of salt.

One of the advantages of Momentum 3 Wireless is the extremely powerful bass, and an ability to play louder and louder than many of its competitors. Which is probably what limits the battery life to 17 hours. The gods need to know what kind of compromises have been made to more than triple this battery life, but there is probably something. We really do not hope Momentum 4 Wireless will be an anonymous addition to the headphone jungle, where it will be difficult to distinguish them from the competition. It’s enough to bite your nails off…

We are still looking forward to “a more natural soundscape”, thanks in part to the slightly angled speaker elements.

Better call quality

Sennheiser should also have improved the call quality, which also means that the voice assistant understands you better. And a better opportunity to customize the sound yourself.

Noise cancellation is not specifically mentioned, other than that it is “advanced” and “adaptive”.

Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless: Availability

We will be able to buy Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless sometime in August. The price has not been announced. Will they go around the 4000 kroner mark as before, or do as Sony and increase by a thousand bucks?
