Sennheiser is a well-known brand when it comes to audio. Although the brand’s headphones are in great demand, that seems to be less the case with the soundbars. The Ambeo Mini is supposed to change that.
While many brands build a sizeable stand at IFA 23, Sennheiser does not. The company is hidden in a small cubicle that barely doubles as a broom cupboard. That is striking, because the company made two new announcements during the fair, with the Ambeo Mini the most striking.
This is Sennheiser’s Ambeo Mini
Sennheiser already has two soundbars in the Ambeo line. With a price of 1,499 euros for the Plus and 2,499 euros, they are quite pricey. In fact, even Sonos is considerably cheaper. The Mini is now an affordable alternative on the market.
Well, 799 euros is still quite pricey for a soundbar, but it is considerably more affordable than the other two of the brand. In terms of appearance and size, it is somewhat similar to the Sonos Beam. It is compact, has rounded corners and is easy to operate.
Although the small room is not ideal for using the full potential of the Ambeo Mini, it does give a nice first impression. During the demonstration, the product manager shows an excerpt from Bohemian Rhapsody, the movie about Queen. The soundbar provides a wonderful Dolby Atmos sound. That’s because the soundbar scans the room and uses the space optimally.
Still slightly different from Sonos
And that is certainly necessary, because Sennheiser sees the soundbar as a stand-alone one. It wants to offer a complete experience without people having to connect multiple boxes. There is also a built-in subwoofer that can deliver up to 43 Hz.

That is both an advantage and a disadvantage. Unlike Sonos, you cannot expand a real set. So the company really focuses on the user who just wants to be done in one go.
Because it has to be a complete box, the makers’ attention has mainly been focused on music. That may sound crazy for a soundbar, but there is an idea behind it. Sennheiser sees the Ambeo not only as an amplifier for the movie experience, but as a complete speaker for the home.
Wonderful sounds from the soundbar
Nevertheless, it also seems to be a great soundbar if you watch your favorite movies or series. The Sennheiser Ambeo contains a Voice Enhancement function. During the demo with Bohemian Rapsody, the conversations between the band members can be heard. However, the film really comes to life when the camera pans over the audience at the concert. The 3D audio then really gives a wow experience.
The Sennheiser Ambeo Mini is now available for 799 euros. This makes it a bit more expensive than the Sonos Beam, but the sound quality more than makes up for it.
