Senior Taliban fighter: we did not subpoena interpreters

The Taliban have not summoned any Afghans who have worked as interpreters for the Netherlands. Ahmadullah Wasiq, a senior member of the Taliban government, wrote: on Twitter.

From NOS reported yesterday that several interpreters who had stayed behind in Afghanistan who worked for the Netherlands have received letters from the Taliban instructing them to appear in court. The interpreters are in hiding, but the Taliban say their families could also be prosecuted if an interpreter does not show up.

According to Wasiq, this is propaganda. He suggests that some people make up such stories in their attempt to leave the country and secure asylum.

Sources tell the NOS that the interpreters to whom the letters were written can be trusted. According to sources, the letters are also circulating at various Dutch ministries. They take the threat that it poses seriously.
