Team MHA, India’s elite group of sleuths from the Ministry of Home Affairs, recently arrived in Srinagar to plan and oversee the security arrangements for the upcoming G20 summit. This global forum, which brings together the leaders of the world’s largest and most influential economies, is scheduled to take place in India in the coming months. As one of the most high-profile events on the international calendar, it is vital that the security arrangements are meticulously planned and executed, and Team MHA is leading the way in ensuring that this happens. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at Team MHA and their role in ensuring the success of the G20 summit.
A team of senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, including intelligence personnel, have travelled to Srinagar to assess the ground situation ahead of the G20 meeting that is scheduled to take place in the city in May, and the Amarnath Yatra. The J&K administration has already made extensive arrangements for the G20 meeting, including the redevelopment of Lal Chowk and areas surrounding the meeting venue close to Dal Lake. During their stay in Kashmir, the G20 delegates will also visit the famous tourist spot of Gulmarg, which is around 50 kilometres from Srinagar. The intelligence officials will assess the security arrangements at the ski resort that is near the Line of Control in Baramulla district in northern Kashmir.
The J&K administration is also conducting programmes in various departments and educational institutions leading up to the G20 event scheduled in Srinagar. The Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri has said that they are placing special emphasis on beautification and creating facilities, and several projects have been launched for implementation. A high-level meeting is scheduled to take place in New Delhi next week to discuss the progress on the projects, and finalise the logistical and security arrangements required for the G20 event.
Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Kiren Rijiju are also expected to arrive in Kashmir Valley on April 9 and 10 to review several developmental projects and assess the progress of various central government schemes. At least 100 high-profile guests from other countries and central ministries are expected to arrive in Srinagar for the G20 meeting. The police, paramilitary and army are on high alert to avoid any attacks and prevent any possible disruption in law and order ahead of the meeting.
The officials will also review the arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra, which is likely to begin in June. The J&K police have stated that militancy is at its lowest in the region, but it has not yet been eliminated. Hence, it is necessary for the police and other security agencies to be on high alert during the event. “Making foolproof arrangements for the stay and travel of guests is a challenge, with so many high-profile guests arriving for the G20 meeting. However, we will do our best to make this event successful,” said a senior official.
In conclusion, the officials are working tirelessly to ensure that the G20 meeting and Amarnath Yatra are successful and peaceful events. They have initiated a range of developmental projects and stepped up security arrangements to prevent any disruptions during the events. The Indian government has placed significant emphasis on making the event a success, with high-profile ministers and officials regularly visiting the region to assess progress and review preparations. The Indian government hopes that the G20 meeting and Amarnath Yatra will strengthen the region’s tourism and create greater economic opportunities for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
