The Ethics Committee expects to decide whether or not to take disciplinary action and the level of the disciplinary action after going through the process of explaining to the Ethics Committee by Mayor Park in the near future. As an elected official , Mayor Park’s election will not be canceled even if the party’s ethics committee issues heavy punishments, such as expulsion, unless he voluntarily resigns.
President Lee explained that he was not deliberating whether there was a problem with Labor in Mayor Park’s disaster response process. Earlier, immediately after the Itaewon disaster, Mayor Park said, “Halloween is not a festival, but a phenomenon” and controversy arose over suspicions of false explanations of where it was on the day of the disaster.

On the same day, the Ethics Committee rejected the request for a new trial made by Kim Cheol-geun, former head of the political affairs office. Former boss Kim, a close associate of Lee’s, was implicated in the alleged destruction of evidence of sexual favors and was punished with a two-year suspension of party membership, but was acquitted by police. President Lee explained, “The reason for the decision not to be sent by the police was rejected because he had nothing to do with the reason for the disciplinary action of the People’s Power Ethics Committee.”
